Having not been to the college before, I found it with the ambiance of serenity. From the moment I pulled into the driveway and parked, it was very soothing. What a perfect place to have a massage therapy college! Inside I was pleasantly greeted and told my therapist would be with me shortly. I was given a place to sit and fill out my intake form. I was very impressed with the way Carlson was able to create. a spa-like experience during a clinic for their students. I felt relaxed and comfortable throughout my experience. Ask yourself before you start school here am I ready for a change am I ready to challenge the parts of me that I have quieted down. The instructors will challenge your patience.  You will not agree with everything that is taught or said but vocalize your opinions and how you feel they will work with you get and give feedback. The environment at this college is different don't know how to describe it but you will feel and be moved. Carlson College speaks for itself anytime you have a therapist that wants to come to school there and they are already licensed from a different massage school. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and didn't know about CCMT when I was researching going to school for massage therapy, but wish I had.  I went there recently to purchase massage lotion.  Not only was it a great price, but the owner Chris gave me a tour of the entire campus.  CCMT is one of the few massage schools that is accredited by an organization that specializes in massage therapy.  Chris and the staff treated me with such respect and the customer service was amazing, even though I was a very small customer. Chris goes above and beyond to make connections in the massage therapist community even when it doesn't benefit her directly.  If you want a caring environment - either to get a massage therapy initial or continuing education or to receive a student massage - this is a place you will feel welcome.

It was a bustling experience, this being my first time visiting Carlson for a student clinic massage. The school was easy to find and all the signage for entry was much appreciated; I knew just where to go. Another woman entered right ahead of me, and she seemed to be a first timer as well. In the office, I was greeted by a couple folks and the office staff handed me a clipboard, letting me know my therapist would be with me soon. While I waited, there seemed to be some appointment confusion in the office area, perhaps as a result of client turnover or filling spots from a waiting list. It was a somewhat anxious atmosphere to be received into, but knowing it's a working school and not a spa, I didn't expect the red carpet treatment : ) Once my therapist retrieved me and brought me to the intake room, I loved seeing all the class photos. While I waited for my therapist to prepare their space for me, having already filled out my form while I waited in the front office, I enjoyed seeing all the faces of people who have gone through the Carlson program and the job opportunities for the future graduates to cull through. The massage itself was lovely - I felt cared for by my student therapist, who was as careful, attentive, and effective as other non-student massage therapists I've had in the past. Their knowledge and skill showed when the spent time working on my sticky and trouble spots and today, the day after, I feel no pain, only openness and that good post-massage release. I left feeling refreshed, with a plan to continue caring for myself, and a hope to be back for more soon! I usually get good, soothing, and relaxing massages from all my therapists here at Carlson College. I come in discomfort with tightness and I leave feeling more happier, relaxed, and less tight. Wonderful deep massage.  I felt well cared for. David focused well on my areas of tight and tense muscles, and helped ease the discomfort they caused. He also helped me see that nearby muscles were big contributors to the knots.  David had some good tips for follow-up self care. Ambiance- massage area was well curtained into private areas, but not private noise-wise and not conducive to talking. The reception area had little seating and little area to write.

When I first looked into Carlson, I had so many questions and reservations. Every question had an answer along with bonus information that I didn't even think to ask, which made me confident in my decision to pursue a career in massage therapy! While attending Carlson I was encouraged to challenge my comfort level and exceeded my own expectations. I've also met and developed friendships that will last a lifetime. I love coming here during the student’s clinicals! I have gotten multiple massages over the past 10 years from various students. Each time has been a very thorough, professional, welcoming, and relaxing experience. The students are helpful and give tips and suggestions as needed, like stretches to do. They all communicate well throughout the entire process, assessing for your needs and problem areas, your comfortability during the service, and your feedback afterwards. The students are very friendly and are respectful towards your bodily consent and privacy during the massage process. You can tell they receive an excellent education/training here, one that is focused on helping clients through their wellness and health while holding the highest ethical standards. I just graduated in February of 2024. My experience at Carlson surpassed my expectations! I went to learn how to massage and become a licensed massage therapist but I learned so much more about myself and feel like I'm a different person. I grew as a person there and feel much more confident in myself. Truthfully, my self esteem has never been high but during and after attending I now know what it feels like to believe in myself and that's due to some amazing instructors I had at Carlson and Dana! I loved my entire time at Carlson - even when the drives seemed long and the pressure of life seemed a bit much I always appreciated being told to take things "one day at a time" - and what do ya know.. we all made it through! The curriculum (ANATOMY 🥴😆) and 70+ massages in clinic helped prepare us for any massage setting, clinical/spa/etc. Without the guidance of our great teachers I'm not sure I'd feel as confident as I do now that I'm out on my own in the wild - thank you, Carlson! ✨

The training at Carlson College of Massage Therapy prepared me for a strong start as a Licensed Massage Therapist!  I hear repeated comments from my clients on how well versed and the depth of knowledge I have compared to other therapist in treating specific muscle issues. Carlson is the place to go if you are anywhere in driving distance! I made a commute to attend and even moved to the area to be more fully immersed. The depth of knowledge that you get in a short time is incredible! I felt more than prepared to start a career. Whatever a client throws at me, I’m equipped to handle it. My entire experience at Carlson College was inviting and welcoming. My massage therapist Isaac was incredibly professional and willing to work with me. I told him about some areas of discomfort and he composed a massage to include my concerns. The massage alleviated all of my back and shoulder pain and left me in a state of pure relaxation. After looking into different massage therapy options in my local area, without a doubt CCMT was the perfect place for me. CCMT not only primarily focusing on massage itself won me over but also the scenic environment. It was beautiful for the six months I was there, peaceful, and the best place in my option to learn the craft. The instructors were wonderful, the hands on work was amazing :) (the best way I learned), and the material was just enough. Between my peers and the instructors it did not take long for us all to feel like the closeness helped propel us into a family. I never meant to become a massage therapist. But going to this school and becoming one has been the greatest joy so far in my life. Carlson has a unique program in which you are given the skills necessary to become an excellent LMT, but they take it one step further and help their people become championship people in life. Education is important, being a good human who can contribute to others’ lives in a positive way is more important. Carlson is not just a college it's a place that feels like home! I am so happy with my decision to attend this school. All instructors and staff go out of their way to help you throughout the program wether it be with school issues or even personal issues. I can't even put into words how much I love this school. It was a life changing experience! I went to bed and woke up everyday excited to get back to school! A lot of life changing events occurred in my short 6months at CCMT, and I found my true calling in life. I am now living my lifelong dream of starting my own company and helping my community with my touch. Wether this is just a side job you're interested in adding to your life or a full time passion you want to make into a career. I highly recommend Carlson be the school that you attend. When I decided to goto massage therapy school I asked around. The answer was always Carlson. So I went to check them out, I did not schedule and appointment.  The staff, instructors, and owner were super friendly and accommodating.  I signed up and graduated 6 months later.  Many places were willing to hire upon graduation, I chose to strike out on my own. This place never ceases to amaze! I had the privilege to graduate from Carlson College of Massage Therapy 2 years ago.  while I was in clinic all I ever heard was how much of an impact we all made in everyone's life, so I truly felt like I was making a difference. Fast forward 2 years, I was presented the opportunity and privilege to be an assistant instructor and clinic supervisor. So I got to see the whole other end of the spectrum. (Crazy right!!! Well that's what I thought) It was incredible, the way everyone blossomed and matured was truly amazing. We had kids fresh out of high school all the way to adults looking for a new career. it's so unique that there is and can be such an age variety, but everyone can learn from each other and continuously grow. If you're looking to go to school at Carlson College of Massage Therapy, this is what you can expect... it's like a family, people will go out of their way to help you. But you still need to pull your own weight, you are there to learn and become the top of your craft. Everyone will hold you accountable if you won't do it yourself. A family functions by everyone doing their part so it runs smoothly(correct!?!) that is basically what it's like going to school here. It's not always easy, but I guarantee if you work hard it will b absolutely worth it. They are so organized, offer a variety of classes and the instructors have always been top notch. Chris, the director of the school will go above and beyond to make your experience there a great one! With my diploma from Carlson College of Massage Therapy, I was able to get a job 1 week after I graduated, and was immediately busy and had lots of clients say it was the best massage they have had. I give all of my credit to the amazing staff at CCMT for not only teaching us everything we need to know, but also pushing each of us to do our best. I graduated from Carlson College of Massage in August of 2001. I have been a practicing therapist since that time. I think about this school, the other students, the teachers, what they taught me, so very often. I was older when attending and Ruth Carlson told our class:  This will change your life in so many ways. I am humbled to say I doubted her (because I had already had so many life experiences), but have learned in these 18 years, this school changed my life so dramatically there are no words. Carlson College gave me more than I could have ever imagined to get out of a Massage Therapy program. Their education set me up with all the right tools to use as a successful massage therapist. However, the program didn't just develop me as a massage therapist. Along with a unique and well-rounded set of skills as an LMT, I also gained a new group of friends, furthered my development as a professional, and learned more about myself than I have in any other 6 month period in my life. I had the pleasure of attending the first part-time class and graduating in February of 2001.  I loved every minute of living in Anamosa and attending classes at Carlson.  The bond and friendship you develop with both fellow students and instructors lasts a lifetime.  I live in Illinois where there are no other Carlson graduates practicing massage anywhere close by.  I am repeatedly told from my clients that they receive the best massage they have ever had.  I 100% contribute that to attending Carlson College of Massage Therapy.  I also have chosen to take many of my continuing education classes at Carlson.  Any time I have a question I call and always get help with anything I need.  I try to get to the student clinics not only to receive a wonderful massage but to also get the chance to visit and catch up with everyone! The classes were great and very informative, the instructors were very easy to get along with and are there to help the students as they go along.  Clinics was a huge help in the business aspect of the massage therapy career, in teaching time management, financial skills, assessment and many other things. I had the pleasure of being a student at  Carlson College, I took the part-time class in 2009, it was challenging for me since I hadn't been in a school environment since 1974. All the teachers were amazing and always there to be of help, they are very passionate about what they do for their students and clients in their careers  as Massage Therapists and  also as owners of their own Businesses.  This in itself greatly helps students see the possibilities in our field. My life has changed greatly since graduating in  2010, I now own my own Massage and Energy Therapy Business out of my home. The experience at Carlson will benefit any student going into this field with the knowledge needed to be a excellent therapist and the passion to always strive to be better at what we do in this Holistic Field of Medicine to help our clients help themselves in their healing.
